Bali - Pura Ulun Danu Bratan

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, or Pura Bratan, is a major Shivaite and water temple on Bali, Indonesia — the other major water temple being Pura Ulun Danu Batur. The temple complex is located on the shores of Lake Bratan in the mountains near Bedugul. Water temples serve the entire region in the outflow area; downstream there are many smaller water temples that are specific to each irrigation association (subak).

Built in 1663, this temple is used for offerings ceremony to the Balinese water, lake and river goddess Dewi Danu, due to the importance of Lake Bratan as a main source of irrigation in central Bali. The 11 stories of pelinggih meru dedicated for Shiva and his consort Parvathi. Buddha statue also present inside this temple.

Lake Bratan is known as the Lake of Holy Mountain due to the fertility of this area. Located 1200 m above sea level, it has a cold tropical climate. (source: wikipedia)

In case some of you might be wondering, what is pura means? Pura is a temple. As you know, majority of the people in Bali are Hindu and there are so many pura around Bali not just the one can be visited by tourist but also some private ones that can only be visited by the owner or the family members.

My next destination was Pura Ulun Danu Beratan. It was chilling up there. On the way there, I could see people were selling fruits including strawberries along the road. Remind me of the road to Cameron Highlands. Exactly the same!

 

As you can see, so many tourist here. Most of them came by bus.

I noticed something strange with this plant. I mean I knew it was hibiscus, but what was sticking to the leaves? Spider web?

I love this place so much. You might say, "Yeah, you said that too all places you visited in Bali". Well, you can try yourself, and you would agree with me for sure :)
