Why we keep old farts at the age of 58 year old, instead of getting some fresh graduates?

dry leaf

This post suppose to be mean.

I got this idea from my office environment. Most of the old farts (I give you chance to set your own range) work very slow and worse have little knowledge about everything, including the field that they have been involved for so long. Most of them have been working there more than 25 years. Imagine that.

We take a simple example. MS Words. Even a kid can do this, with some help from adult. They will learn and we don’t need to teach them anymore. But, it’s different with old farts. They are not willing to learn, even though the course is free. If they are forced to attend a course, they will enjoy the food and that’s all. They don’t want to learn. Then, when in the office; they will keep bothering those who know about it which usually are juniors. Can you imagine, every single hour or worse every single minute, they keep calling you to help them solve MS Words problem. I know… I know MS Words is very simple. But, they just don’t want to learn and prefer to be dumb rather than learning. Their usual excuse would be “I only have few years to go, before pension.” Sigh.

My question is, Why we keep old farts at the age of 58 year old, instead of getting some fresh graduates?

Let say you pay this old fart RM5k for his/her experience but not willing to learn anything new and work slow, why not pay fresh graduate who willing to learn and work fast but we only pay them, let say RM1k? This is common sense, right?

I was so shock when I first heard about government expand until 58 years old. Before it was 56 years old. Old enough.

When we expand until 58 years old, do you think that job for fresh graduate still available? Then, we always complain about jobless graduates and so on.

Let’s make my accusation accurate. This scenario won’t be applied to ALL old farts but some of them, only.

  4. joe - can you do anything when you supporting otherwise?

this is my view, which government should consider. not about which party should we vote.

doesn't matter which party we vote, the result still remain the same.

p/s : agreed too about the politic's view..it doesnt matter which party we sokong, all that matter is can they deliver?

Are in the IT dept? Then you'll be bugged endlessly by those people...hehe.

Another case are those who sit in rooms and are known by the designation 'manager' but lack the skills and knowledge to be a manager. Not everyone with that kind of title is fit to be one.

  10. kniedaz - yep akak. i think, not many of 'them' in private sector, but 'too' many in government.

well, it's a good thought that government thinks of oldies as they need money for their living and so on. but, what about the quality? you cannot fulfill all needs.

furthermore, they have pension. so, why so worry?

about the politic, sometimes i hate both party who always flame civilians for their own benefit. end up, those brainless become mad and forgot about what is right and what is wrong... again, can any of the party fulfill what they need exactly? promises can be made easily... but most of them, are not true.

  19. tekkaus - i'd agree, but experience can be gained... what about let the junior master his/her experience, then kick him/her out? haha i know, it's mean but sometimes, we can't please everybody.

  23. Years of experience are the only advantage the old staff have over fresh graduates I think. Many people always criticize that fresh graduates have bad working attitude. Ironically, the old employees are not better off according to ur post.

People are just reluctant to change. Even lately Obama admitted that change is hard.

Though as u said the scenario doesn't apply to all old employees. Lol! And I am just too young to give any comment on this topic.

  24. sheng loong - haha there is never too young to comment. we have our freedom of speech (eh does it apply in malaysia??).

you should try working in government sector. then, maybe you can write a better complain than me! :D

  25. exchanging knowledge with experience is a good way, (in this matter) but as long as they are not willing to learn, then there's no point to do so..

again, im tired of hearing and thinking about political issues in Malaysia..they just wont quit pestering each other...huhu

  26. i thought u r working in private sector? quite true...lol

  27. kniedaz - agree with you. politic is boring and tiring. the same matter repeat again and again, not to mention their hobby to bash each other, in media and also parliament.

do you realize that, when important incident occur, another sub incident which isn't related to politic will all in sudden appear? weird, isn't it?

most of old peoples that i know, they are not willing to learn new things and some even claim, "the more you know, the more work you have to do".

    this is insane right?

    ReplyDelete
  28. sheng loong - nope :) that's why i know the scenario, exactly.

  29. Some company really looking for a loyal worker. Maybe they're valued for their working experiences, but truthfully, I think the newbies are quite important too. As you mentioned before, fresh graduates are eager to learn new things, open up to new ideas and have the drive to do so as their career path has just begun. However, the oldies are invaluable too as they had those experiences that could only be learned by times.

A great company should always has a balance of old and young working capital :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. bcd - that's why we don't have great company in malaysia, i mean... in government sector.

the works in the office given by the boss is not balance. i mean, those oldies get less work compared to freshy. why? the reason is they are old and new staff should learn more so that they can be full of knowledge and be like them.

the reason i hate to hear so much is, they can't learn new thing because they will leave the company soon... where else, they still got 4-5 years to go! so, they prefer to eat and sleep and get the money instead of work and get paid. that's bad.

sometimes, i feel like smashing their head with gigantic dildo, so that they know it's a new invention... when they are busy sleeping!

    duh!
