The girl in the picture is Katie Kirkpatrick, Next to her, her fiancé,Nick, 23. The picture was taken shortly before their wedding ceremony, held on January 11, 2005 in the US . Katie has terminal cancer and spend hours a day receiving medication. In the picture, Nick is waiting for her on one of the many sessions of quimo to end.
In spite of all the pain, organ failures, and morphine shots, Katie is going along with her wedding and took care of every detail. The dress had to be adjusted a few times due to her constant weight loss
An unusual accessory at the party was the oxygen tube that Katie used throughout the ceremony and reception as well. The other couple in the picture are Nick's parents. Excited to see her son marrying his high school sweetheart.
Katie, in her wheelchair with the oxygen tube , listening to a song from her husband and friends
At the reception, katie had to take a few rests. The pain do not allow her to stand up for long periods
Katie died five days after her wedding day. Watching a woman so ill and weak getting married and with a smile on her face makes us think..... Happiness is reachable, no matter how long it last. We should stop making our lives complicated.
Life is short
Break the rules
forgive quickly
kiss passionately, love truly
laugh constantly
And never stop smiling
no matter how strange life is
Life is not always the party we expected to be
but as long as we are here, we should smile and be grateful.

nabilah - yes. to die in happiness is the best thing we ever wanted in our lives.
ReplyDeleteadila - yeah. most of us don't appreciate life... but regret when it's shorter.
etavasi - yes. agree with you... we should be happy always :)
ReplyDeletejerry - ah i like that... "live life before life leaves you!" :) good one... indeed.
terra - yes its sad but i guess it was a happy ending for both of them :)
ReplyDeleteblue - if i was the guy... i guess its hard for me to accept the fate. i will marry her of course but deep in my heart i'll be crying every night. counting days... and thinking of the day she dies... really will drive me nut.
axim - will you do the same? :)
ReplyDeletehalf - who loves cancer? no one. i hate cancer too but its just too hard to get rid of it... i mean not to hear about it. even my neighbor got breast cancer. she told us that she cooks at home and very seldom eating outside but then doc told her it might be because of the work stress.
no stress, no outside food.

ReplyDeletebut what we should do is... appreciate every moment and live life to the fullest. there is no turning back :)
qaseh - yes. agree with your point :) who says we can't get happiness even tho life is shorter than we expect?

ReplyDeletewahidah - love is blind? haha in this context?

ReplyDeletefaisal,
ReplyDeleteShe had the cancer yet she still had the big dream.
With the determination, she endured the great pain.
She had the great tolerance.
Her life was short but showed us how she treasured the life.
The lesson is that we have to love the life even facing a lot of obstacles.
Yes, this is the time to forgive, love truly
laugh constantly smiling
no matter how strange life is.
This is the wonderful yet inspiring post.
Faisal, have a nice day.

hey this is good. *sorry lama tak tak dtg, i missed a lot. busy.* i'm making this a desktop wallpaper. maybe a lesson, too, about how some people are just focusing on the wrong things when they should be finding ways to happiness. how's that?
ReplyDeletepotter - sometimes we make effort to find happiness, just that sometimes happiness seems to run away from us. how? :(
