Be careful when you lost your cell phone

Be careful how you list names on your cell phone! Be Safe!

This lady has changed her habit of how she lists her names on her mobile phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag which contained her mobile phone, Credit card, purse...etc..was stolen.

20 minutes later when she called her Hubby, from a pay phone telling him what had happened. Hubby says 'I've just received your sms text asking about our Pin number. I replied a little while ago.'

They rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The pickpocket had actually used the stolen hand phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from the bank account.

The lesson: Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list.
Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, sweetheart, Sayang...... Dad, Mum etc.......

And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked through texts, CONFIRM by calling back.

Also, when you're being texted by friends or family to meet them somewhere,be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about going places to meet 'family and friends' who text you.

This is really a good reminder not to key in any sensitive information on handphones or bags.
Good information, wish you healthy and happy.

Salam there Faisal.. It's been a while I left comments in here. Kewl layout eh.

Erm..this is a good tip. BUT there's always pros and cons in naming persons on your phone list. We use names like Home, Dad, Mom, etc for 'Family n Friends' mainly because its easier and in case of emergency, like something happen to us, so the next person who have our phone did not have to scroll down over 250 and more contacts to call the right person - Family and Friends. So that's one of the pros of having names on our phone list.

Of coz one of the cons are as what you said here. They may even text ur boss or call your office or even any of your clients and they may even spread rumours or even worse - ask for ransom money. And this are mostly happen to those who've been kidnapped. They just call/text whoever on your VIP list.

But still, I prefer not to change the names on my phone list. Else, its pretty hard in terms of emergency. What one must remember is to play safe i.e. never reveal your PIN no to anyone.

With that, you have a good weekend aight!

I've read about this from email few weeks back...

and I wonder... do people give or their ATM-pin numbers to immediate family members??? Do you??

**I always keep this kind of information myself... and I don't think anyone wanna know pun... :) winkwink

  10. Kamal - Ye, pencuri curi pun memang nak dapatkan duit kan? Jadi kalau pencuri tu dapat duit bank kira bonus lah :)

Suituapui - Hehe yes. I should change too but it's very confusing after we have used the nicknames for ages.

Myadlan - Yes, got it from email too. Just think this info might help those who haven't read about it.

Yes I changed the new layout 3 days ago but sadly I've deleted some links accidentally :( The quote is made by me from the observation of some finance books :)

Zara - Thanks Zara for the compliment. The dark one bored me to death so I decided to change it hehe.

Agree with your points Zara. But how if I put family 1, family 2 and family 3 for instance?

But the best solution is never give your PIN number to anyone including your family :)

You have a good weekend ahead too :)

  11. Nurin - Well I have made some questionnaires to colleagues and friends and the result is more than 50% those who are married share their PIN number with their spouse. Weird isn't it? :)

  24. Hi Faisal,
thanks for stopping by my page. Crouton ada dijual di Carrefour Midvalley, kat section pasta. Tapi you can make your own crouton. What you do is, you slice your bread, yg putih2 ye, tepi tamau. Slice into dadu shape, pastuh, you melt some butter. Mix the melted butter ke dlm sliced bread itu. Dlm oven, atau roaster, yg penting bukan microwave, set temperature to reheat, or juz 80 degrees la, spread evenly crouton itu dlm tray, heat up for 1 minute, juz to bagi crouton itu keras, jgn hangus tau. Sound complicated? ekekekeke...BUt yang ada kat carrefour tuh mahal, 500gm of crouton is RM14. Not only boleh bubuh dlm salad, dlm cream soup pun boleh!!!

  33. great tips! Now, I need to change my phone entry from HUBBY to something else! you are right actually. never disclose relationship on the phone.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Farah - Yes Farah unless you do something like Zara, your own account info only for yourself so it doesn't matter if you put "hubby" on your phone. Just careful if you simply got a sms from hubby to meet somewhere. Call for confirmation ;)
