USM’s parking

Usm_Logo

It’s my third week which is the last week of intensive course in USM. That mean, almost 3 weeks I did not go to work. It was not a honeymoon for me either. No time for badminton, proper exercise and books (I do not mean the educational ones of course). I take 10 papers this year and 3 papers left – Management Accounting, Business Statistic and Marketing. I got the results for International Business and Managerial Finance. The results were bad. I’m kind of frustrated but I do not want these two results will spoil the mood for the next three papers.

During the intensive course, many things had happen but what I want to highlight here is about summon.

Believe it or not, I had been summoned by the USM’s guard. Ok, I know that rule is rule and is not meant to be broken but there is a reason which makes me upset.

Even prisons were made to be broken LOL

I realize that every time we have exam does not matter mid term (we called it Peperiksaan Berterusan (PB)) or final exam, we will face the same problem which is parking space. The same dates, there will be army with their vehicles and marching, sports at the stadium or anything that involve a lot of people from outside occupied the parking space. When this happen, we students, do not have enough parking space and we have to park somewhere around there which have been claimed as illegal parking for the Security Department. I was late during my English exam which I accidentally woke up late and drove my car hurriedly to the exam hall. Sadly, the parking space was full and since I was late and did not want to waste time, I parked at the roadside and ran to the hall. To my surprise, I got a white summon ticket on my windscreen. I thought I got clamped which I need to call them and pay RM20. I looked around my car, there was no clamp. I felt relieve. Then I went to the library to meet some other friends and we went out for lunch in one car, which I did not drive mine. In the car, I was telling them about this and they wanted me to solve this matter properly, afraid that my car will be blacklisted and cannot drive in USM anymore. So, after lunch, we drove to the Security Department. When we asked the guards there, they said we must refer the case to the traffic department but there was no one at the counter and the staff there told us they were at the sticker counter (they gave out USM’s sticker to the students). I was pretty surprise about it as don’t you think they should placed 1or 2 traffic staff at the counter since there were a few cases about clamp and summon ticket based on my observation as some peoples were complaining about it there. They told us that we have to go to the sticker counter. So, we drove there and when we asked the staff there, they said I need to solve this matter at the Security Department office. Er, hello? We are not a ball to be kicked here and there, alright? During the intensive course there were a lot of cars and it was very difficult for us to park our car. We drove back to the Security Department, and met the staff there. LUCKILY, we found one of the people in charge to deal. Again, I was so shock that he said I need to pay RM50! Clamp is much better than this. It is so impossible that they can fine higher than police which is RM30! I was very upset as RM50 just flew away in a blink. VERY SAD.

I found a good blog about this: http://usmcampusnews.blogspot.com/2010/08/how-do-you-solve-parking-problem-at-usm.html. I understand the clamping rule, but what about the RM50 non-clamping issue? Isn’t it too much? I do not blame the authority to fine those who do not obey the rule but I hope they can reduce the amount as I still think RM50 is a lot.

It’s 2am. It is just a rambling since I have ignored my blog for a long time. Have a nice day Smile

  5. Terra - Yea. I did not disagree with the summon to those who disobey the rule but hope they can re-consider about the amount since student is not the only one to blame. I mean, since there is not much space for parking maybe they can consider about parking at the roadside, or tell others who need to use USM's facilities such as the stadium and the parking space around the exam hall to park somewhere else.
