JAKARTA - MALAYSIA have won the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 4-2 on aggregate. Indonesia won the second leg of the final 2-1 in Jakarta on Wednesday night but Malaysia had won the first leg 3-0 on Sunday.

The scorers for Indonesia were Ridwan (87th minute)and Mohammad Nasuha (71st). Safee Sali had scored in the 52nd minute to first put Malaysia 1-0 in the lead.

Never has there been such an overwhelming show of support for Indonesia's 'Timnas' (its national team) although they had lost to Malaysia in the first leg of the final in Bukit Jalil in Malaysia, on Sunday.

In the first half on Wednesday though, Indonesia threw all it had at a gutsy Malaysian team. The Malaysian boys, however, held their ground and also survived a penalty miss by the hosts. Earlier, Indonesian fans created a sea of red and white at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium but they were to be disappointed in the end. -- THE STAR/ANN

Second news is:

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak declared tomorrow a public holiday to celebrate the Malaysian football team winning the AFF Suzuki Cup in Jakarta.

He also congratulated the team.
"Well done, Malaysian Tigers! You played well as a team and have made your country very proud. Congratulations!" he said in his Twitter account after the second leg of the final.

Malaysia went down to Indonesia 1-2 in that nail-biting match but walked away winners on a 4-2 aggregate after winning the first leg 3-0 at National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Sunday.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the victory showed that nothing was impossible if one wanted to win.
"The effort, sweat and sacrifice of each player, coach and officer contributed to the win. I urge the players to maintain a high performance so that Malaysia can hold its head high in the international arena."

  10. Foong - Nothing is impossible. Maybe this will make us support our national team instead of others. If you realize, a lot of Malaysians support other countries or team more than their own team :-)

Weird but true. Some how thing has changed :-)
